Suárez, Spain's Uruguayan crown prince
Luis Suárez,
remains on fire in front of goal. The Barcelona sharpshooter notched up
his 20th league strike of the season against Levante, and is on course
for both the Pichichi Trophy (for the highest scorer in La Liga) and the
European Golden Shoe award. His goalscoring capacity seems to be
infinite.
The former Liverpool man's statistics are without doubt quite
exceptional, and if he goes on banging them in at this rate, he might
well become the highest-ever Uruguayan goalscorer in the history of the
Spanish league.
In fact, now, after 23 league games, Suárez has the highest number of
goals scored at this stage by a player from Uruguay. He is ahead of
distinguished marksmen like Diego Forlán, Fernando Morena, Jorge Orosmán
da Silva, Rubén Sosa and Héctor Núñez. Even in his best season at
Atlético Madrid, at this point in the league programme Forlán had scored
five goals fewer than Suárez, and if he goes on like this, the Barça
star will surpass all of his fellow countrymen by the end of the
campaign, and inscribe his name in La Liga history.
