Syria in Last 24 Hours: Senior Nusra Front Commander Killed in Army Offensive in Damascus Countryside

 


Senior Nusra Commander Younes Salim Davoud, also known as Abi Faras, was killed in the Syrian army men' offensives in Tal al-Suwan near the town on Douma in the Eastern part of Damascus province.
The Syrian army also inflicted heavy losses on the terrorist groups in other key province across Syria.
Damascus
The Syrian Army's artillery units opened fire at the fortified positions of the militant groups in Southwestern Damascus province, leaving tens of the terrorists dead or wounded.
The militant groups' strongholds near the city of Darayya and the town of al-Moqeilibeh in Western Ghouta were shelled by the Syrian artillery.
The shelling not only ended in the killing and wounding of several militants but also slowed down their logistic movements in the battlefronts.
The Syrian army said that its troops continued to advance against the militants of al-Nusra Front in the Eastern part of Damascus province, adding the terrorists suffered a heavy death toll in the offensive.
"The Syrian soldiers struck defense lines of al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front and advanced against them on the axis of Aerospace Organization and the Faculty of Agriculture in Marj region in Eastern Ghouta, which claimed the lives of several terrorists," the army said.
"The army troops also seized several residential building blocks that were used by the Nusra militants in the region," the army added.
Meantime, several members of Jeish al-Islam terrorist group, including one of its notorious commanders, were killed in the Syrian Army troops' attacks in Eastern Ghouta.

The attacks also inflicted major damage on the Nusra military equipment and vehicles.
Idlib
Syrian government forces are making advances towards the northern city of Idlib, Lebanon's Al Mayadeen television reported.
According to the broadcaster, units of the Syrian army are located just a few miles outside Idlib, which is currently controlled by militants.
Aleppo
Kurdish fighters of the People's Protection Units, backed by the Syrian and Russian jet's air cover, managed to establish full control over a military base north of Aleppo and several other sites in the region formerly held by the terrorists.
During the intensive ground offensive, the mainly Kurdish force, helped by joint Russian and Syrian air cover, liberated Military Base 55 in Northern Aleppo, consolidating the anti-militant pool's grip on newly emancipated Aleppo-Ezaz road, which was the main supply route of militants in northern Syria's territories near Turkish border.
Further tightening their grip over the region, the army forces kept on liberating other nearby sites from the militants' hold, including two villages of Western Barad and Mara'naz, a mill and a car spare-parts factory in the region.
Meantime, the Syrian Army troops thwarted Ahrar al-Sham terrorists' attack on government forces' defense lines around a newly-liberated village in the Northern part of Aleppo province, military sources said.
"The newly-liberated Kafin is under full control of the Syrian government forces," the sources said.
"Ahrar al-Sham's attacks to take back Kafin were repelled by the Syrian army and popular forces," the sources added.
The sources said that Ahrar al-Sham left behind several dead and wounded members and fled the battlefront in order to evade more casualties.
Hama
Scores of Takfiri terrorists were killed in a surprise attack by the Syrian army soldiers on a large militant's hideout in Hama province, a military source said on Monday.
The source said the thunderbolt operation by the Syrian army was conducted near a vast greenhouse in Tal Umri on Homs-Salamiyah road, during which the terrorists sustained large casualties.
Pro-government forces also managed to confiscate a significant amount of arms and ammunition of the militants, the military sources added.
Also on Monday, Syrian army units, in concerted offensives, targeted the gatherings of the terrorists Northwest of Hama province, destroying their hardware and inflicting heavy losses on them, military sources said.
Homs
Syrian Army forces, backed by their popular allies, inflicted heavy losses and damage on Takfiri militants, during a series of offensives on militant-held areas across the province of Homs.
The Syrian army, during a rapid surprise attack, destroyed a number of vehicles and other military equipment of the ISIL Takfiri terrorists near al-Bayarat East of Palmyra in Homs province.
The army troops also carried out concentrated operations against ISIL terrorists positions in Minter al-Kharouba and al-Rumaylah near Maheen-al-Quaryatayn in Southeastern Homs.
The Syrian army operations, in the northern regions of Homs province, also led to the destruction of a number of militant positions and large casualties among them in surrounding areas of Hayal mountain, al-Tafha village, in Tir Ma’ala, and, Talbiseh, North of Homs province. 
Lattakia
The militant groups withdrew forces from one more key village in the mountainous regions of the coastal province of Lattakia near the border with Turkey under the heavy attacks of the Syrian Army and popular forces.
The Syrian army troops and the National Defense Forces (NDF) pushed the militant groups back from the village of Bashoura and seized full control over the village and its surroundings.
Several militants were killed or wounded in the offensive.
